Hiking without a car: plan walks around bus and train
Hiking without a car has one advantage drivers never get: you do not have to return to where you started. That makes the finest routes possible — traverses.
🚌 Plan a walk by bus →How it works
- Put the start on a stop (or on your accommodation — Peakflow finds the connection).
- Choose a destination on the other side of the range.
- Peakflow adds up the journey out, the walk and the journey back, and shows the legs separately.
- Check the departure before you leave — the last bus is listed with it.
The last bus is the real problem
It is rarely the walk that fails, it is the way home. So Peakflow works backwards: when do you have to turn around at the summit to catch the last bus? That time sits in the plan, not in the small print.
Which timetables
The Alpine region is covered: buses, trains, cable cars and boats, with operating seasons and closing days. Cable cars matter most — in spring and autumn many run only at weekends, and missing that leaves you with 600 metres of unplanned descent.
Why almost no app does this
Timetables and hiking paths live in different worlds. Joining them is unglamorous work — and for everyone who wants the mountains without a car, it is the difference between possible and impossible.
Frequently asked
Are the timetables current?
They are updated regularly, including cable car seasons. Before you go, Peakflow shows the next real departures.
Does it work outside the Alps?
The Alps are the focus. Elsewhere Peakflow shows stops but not complete timetables everywhere.
Can I plan from my hotel?
Yes. Enter your accommodation as the start and the day begins and ends at the door.
